so apparently the GED teacher, Reid, got some wires crossed.. only the professional tutors make that $20 an hour I mentioned. it seemed too good to be true, so I followed up on it earlier this week. the best I could do without a degree is part-time tutoring at $7-$8 an hour in the Writing Lab; I could charge more if someone wanted private tutoring, but that's it. kinda had my suspicions about that anyway. oh well.

I went down to Reid's office today to sit and talk with one of his advisors, Turzah, and she had some interesting stuff to say about what courses to take... she basically suggested a Human Development course, Career Dev & Decision Making. despite what many people have said, I'd like to go into college knowing what I'm working towards. I think it's more because I need a goal to work towards than because I'm uncomfortable with the uncertainty. having a goal and knowing what direction I'm working towards would be a lot better than this limbo that I've been in for years.

also this afternoon, I stopped at an area bookstore I've been driving past for a few months now. the owner of the store is a social butterfly (like someone else I know, *coughs*[info]cforce*coughs*) and had some interesting stuff to say about school. she gave me a book called "What Color is Your Parachute?", which, among other things, has career choosing advice. she also talked about her brother-in-law the soil scientist, which isn't far from the environmental engineer I'd been thinking about these past few months. lot of stuff for me to process and think about over the next few days!
